Olgiata Golf Club

///Olgiata Golf Club

Nestled in the heart of a storied landscape just a few kilometers from Rome, Olgiata Golf Club is one of Italy’s most prestigious golf venues, proudly ranked among the Top 100 World Golf Courses by Golf Digest. Since its inauguration in 1961, the club has captivated players with its lush, tree-lined parkland setting and a layout that elegantly blends history, nature, and technical mastery.

The club boasts 27 holes, divided between the historic West Course (18 holes) and the East Course (9 holes). The original design by English architect C. Kenneth Cotton was carefully restyled by Jim Fazio in 1996 and again in 2012, to meet international tournament standards. The West Course, the club’s crown jewel, has hosted some of golf’s most important events, including the Italian Open, the World Team Championships in 1968 and 1984, and numerous top-level FIG tournaments. With three possible configurations—Par 71, 72, and 73—and seven different tees, it offers a highly customizable and challenging experience. The East Course, a full-length 9-hole layout (Par 36), stands proudly as a complete course in its own right, regularly hosting tournaments and competitions.

But Olgiata is more than just golf—its roots run deep into Italian history. The area once belonged to the Etruscans, who built the ancient city of Veio here over 3000 years ago. Traces of their civilization, including tunnels and caves, still lie hidden among the rolling hills. Through centuries of battles among noble families like the Orsini, Chigi, and Olgiati, the land changed hands many times, becoming a noble estate, a battleground, and later, a vast agricultural enterprise. The castle, built between the 15th and 16th centuries, remains a magnificent symbol of Roman countryside architecture, with four towers and a defensive wall still intact.

In the late 1950s, the estate’s transformation into a residential and sporting haven began. Once home to legendary racehorses like Nearco, Tenerani, and Ribot, the area was redeveloped into a refined oasis offering not only golf, but also swimming pools, tennis courts, and luxurious residences—becoming an elite retreat on the Via Cassia, just a short drive from the Campidoglio.
