Circolo del Golf di Roma Acquasanta

///Circolo del Golf di Roma Acquasanta

With roots tracing back to 1898, the Circolo del Golf Roma Acquasanta is widely recognized as the oldest golf club in Italy—and one of the most evocative in all of Europe. Nestled within the historic landscape of the Appian Way, this 18-hole course is uniquely traversed by the ancient Roman aqueduct of Claudio, creating an unforgettable dialogue between nature, sport, and centuries of human history.

Officially established at its current location in 1903, the club was shaped by a group of passionate British and American diplomats, who recognized the beauty and potential of the Acqua Santa estate, then owned by the Torlonia family. From the very first “links,” Acquasanta has offered players breathtaking panoramas—St. Peter’s dome, the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, and the basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano appear like brushstrokes in a timeless Roman canvas.

The par 71 course may appear gentle, but its subtle slopes, water features, and preserved natural obstacles—such as the Almone River and the legendary Fonte dell’Acqua Santa—provide a strategic challenge to even the most seasoned golfers.

Beyond the fairways, the Clubhouse—an elegant yet intimate villa framed by pines and elms planted over a century ago—offers refined hospitality in a quintessentially British style. Two restaurants, a tranquil pool area, and inviting social spaces embody the understated charm that defines Acquasanta.

Celebrating its 120th anniversary in 2023, the club remains a treasured institution, where third- and fourth-generation members gather in a spirit of tradition, camaraderie, and love for the game. Much like a Renaissance painting, the course is to be cherished and carefully preserved—not reinvented.

To play at Acquasanta is to walk through history with a club in hand and Rome at your feet.
